Creating a Channel

Creating a Channel on NeoCast Protocol for Web3 Notifications: A Simple Walkthrough Guide

Creating a channel is the first step to send notifications via the NeoCast Protocol, enabling you to establish communication with your web3 subscribers. This guide will walk you through the channel creation process.

Step 1: Understand the Channel Creation Process Before diving in, it's essential to understand the overall channel creation process. Channels can be created using the NeoCast dApp or smart contracts, and they can be deployed on either the Ethereum Mainnet or the Goerli Test Network.

  • Ethereum Mainnet (Prod): Recommended for fully functional dApps and smart contracts with an active user base. Requires 50 NeoCasttokens.

  • Goerli Test Network (Staging): Useful for testing channels, sending dummy notifications, and understanding the NeoCast Protocol. No real NeoCast or ETH required for the Staging app.

Step 2: Requirements for Setting Up a Channel Make sure you have the following six crucial requirements ready for both Prod and Staging:

  • Channel Name

  • Channel Logo (128px * 128px image)

  • 50 $NeoCast tokens in your wallet (and some ETH for gas fees)

  • Brief Channel Description (250 Characters)

  • Channel CTA (Call To Action) link

  • Network & Alias Address

Important Note on Network & Alias Address:

  • The Network dropdown allows you to select the blockchain network on which you want to send notifications (e.g., Ethereum, Polygon, BSC).

  • The Alias Address field is relevant when you choose a chain other than Ethereum for your channel's notifications. It represents your Ethereum channel on the selected chain.

  • Ensure the alias address you provide is your own, as it will be verified during the channel creation process.

Step 3: How to Set Up Your Channel Once you've gathered the requirements, follow these steps:

For Prod (Ethereum Mainnet) or Staging (Goerli Test Network):

  1. Head to the NeoCast dApp or staging dApp, depending on your channel creation requirement.

  2. Visit the "Create Channel" section and follow the provided instructions to create your channel. Optionally, you can refer to the guide for a step-by-step tutorial.

  3. If you prefer to create a channel using a Gnosis safe, visit the respective guide for instructions.

For Goerli-NeoCast Tokens on Staging Dapp: If you're setting up a channel on the Staging dApp, you can obtain free Goerli $NeoCast tokens from the dApp or online faucets. Alternatively, you can mint Goerli NeoCast directly.

Gas Fee Reimbursement (Prod DApp): If you're setting up a channel on the Ethereum Mainnet (Prod DApp), you can request a channel creation gas fee reimbursement within 24 hours.

Congratulations! You've now set up your channel and can start sending web3 notifications to your subscribers. This channel will serve as a vital communication pathway within the web3.0 ecosystem.
